LET ME SHOW YOU THE WAY TO LUMUT AND PANGKOR

Let us start our journey from KL by road.

My Recommended Route:

In short: Take the PLUS north-south highway: Jalan Duta entry, exit at Bidor Interchange. Proceed to Teluk Intan then Sitiawan and Lumut. You need to take a ferry to Pangkor at the Lumut Jetty in Lumut town (NOT PELABUHAN LUMUT!).

In detail:
Enter PLUS North-South Expressway at Jalan Duta toll plaza and exit at Bidor interchange after about 75minutes of driving within the speed limit. After the toll plaza, turn right into Bidor town and you should be heading northwards along route 1 (Petronas station will be on your right). Watchout for a left turn to Teluk Intan (Route 58). It is at a traffic light just after passing a couple of service stations.

Along route 58, a bit bumpy at the moment, obey speed limits. After about 20 minutes, you should look out for a left turn to Sitiawan or Lumut or Pangkor. It is at a T-junction just before Teluk Intan district hospital. You will by-pass Teluk Intan at about 4km from its town centre.

There are a few big school complexes on your right along this road. Don't go too fast here cos it is a built up area. You'll reach a signalised T-junction at the end of this road. Turn left towards Sitiawan or Lumut or Pangkor.

At about 4km ahead you'll reach another T-junction which shows you Lumut/Pangkor/Sitiawan is to your right. OK, make a right turn onto a high and long Sultan Yusuf bridge and you are on a wide stretch of straight road called Route 5. Speed on (the legal limit is still 90km/hr) and enjoy the view of vast padi fields and acres of palm oil plantations.

About 40 minutes from there you'll reach a signalised T-junction (you'll see many mango stalls near this junction) that shows you to Lumut and Pangkor.
Actually there are a few options for you to take. Go straight on until you see KFC right in Sitiawan town centre and turn left to Lumut.

Recommended Eating Places

Sg. Buloh rest area (overpass) will be your children's favourite. My kids will suddenly become hungry upon approaching this place. Varieties of  food and facilities. Maybe too early to stop here.

Rawang rest area - good facilities but nothing outstanding about its food.

Bidor town - a few roadside stalls and KFC. If in the evening, try  this restaurant at a malay bungalow immediately after the traffic light to Teluk Intan. Nice setting, varieties of food - thai, western, satay, ikan bakar etc. There is a surau nearby.

Teluk Intan - there is a big medan selera on your right just before the traffic light along that Teluk Intan by-pass. Otherwise, try the medan selera at just before the Sultan Yusuf bridge.

There are few roadside stalls along the way to Sitiawan and more as you approach Sitiawan town. Most of them are colourfully light up at night.

Petrol Stations

Along the expressways, only at Sg. Buloh and Rawang rest areas.
If you have gone past Rawang rest area, the next stop is Bidor town itself. Otherwise, you can exit at the nearest interchange and go to towns like Tg. Malim, Slim River and Sungkai. After filling up, you don't have to turn back onto the highway. Just proceed along the federal route 1 (already widened to 4 lanes - max. speed 90km/hr!) and rejoin the expressway at the next interchange.

After Bidor town, then you need to fill up in Teluk Intan town. Do it there cos the next one will be in Sitiawan.

Surau/Mosques

Mosques: Bidor town, Changkat Jong (on the way to Teluk Intan), a few in Teluk Intan town, Sg. Rebana, Lekir and Sitiawan.
Surau: all rest areas and most eating outlets have surau nearby.

Journey time
 On average:
KL-Bidor = 75min.
Bidor-Lumut = 90min.

CAUTION: Most federal roads within Perak have wide carriageway and it is tempting to drive fast. PLEASE REMEMBER that there are heavy traffic in built up areas and its surrounding. Motorcycles and heavy vehicles are a  common sight. DRIVE CAREFULLY!
